NBGA Official Rules & Seasonal Point System
Nocturnal Barley Golf The Rules
DRESS CODE: Outlandish dress (sports coat preferred) must be worn at all times and a beer must near your hand at all times (unless swinging a club). . **rules may be added during play, but do not go into effect until after a 24 hour grace period.
1. Each NBGA member is responsible for the development and maintenance of their golf course. External music must be provided during play. Music is chosen by the course owner.
2. Tournament calendar shall be established prior to the beginning of each season. All playing members are welcome to the calendar meeting, and dates shall be chosen by those present at the meeting. In the event of inclement weather during play, a majority of players present may elect to cancel the play with no penalty. (those players still receive attendance points.)
3. The course shall consist of 9 holes: 7 par 1's and 2 par 2's Each hole shall be illuminated by a solar landscaping light (or other light such as a lumminare). One hole shall be designated as the "rum hole" in which a designated sign shall be placed over the hole. Any player whose ball hits the sign during regular play shall receive win a 750mL of a bottle of rum.
4. Each player must bring a 12 pack of beer (Greens fee) to play. Winner after 18 holes keeps the remaining beer.
5. All players who participate may not leave the game intoxicated and get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Players may opt to 1) use a sober designated driver ,2) remain on course facilities for the evening, 3) walk of bike to other accommodations. Course owners and other players shall not be held responsible in the event of any player or players failing to adhere to this rule. Players violating this rule shall not return to the league.
6. A round shall consist of 18 holes total - twice though the 9-hole course. The winner will be the player with the most points.
7. Players shall take turns hitting their ball. Only 1 player may swing at a time. Physical contact with the swinging player is not permitted.
8. POINTS: A player shall get 1 point if they are closest to the pin (only one swing per par 1 and 2 per par 2). If the player is within a club length they shall get 2 points. 3 points shall be awarded if the player is within 1 club heads length as this shall be considered a hole-in-one. If there are more than 4 players, than the winner of each hole shall get an additional point and second place for each hole shall get a point.
9. If a player scores a hole-in-one, the remaining players must consume a full beer before proceeding to the next hole.
10. Players in the rough, sand, or water (any non-grass area; i.e. mulch, cement, etc.), forfeit the hole.
11. Beer shall be accessible at all times and consumed during the game.
12. Firelight, moonlight, flashlight, glow lights, and seasonal lights (i.e. x-mas lights) are the only lights allowed. NO other external lighting of any kind is allowed.
13. For etiquette purposes, the swinging player gets to choose where they would like flashlight illumination and the non-swinging players must accommodate. Non-swinging players may not use lighting to distract in any way.
14. Score must be kept by memory, as pencil and paper are not allowed on the course.
15. If a player cannot finish a round, for whatever reason, that round shall be forfeited by that player. Players must complete 9 holes to retain attendance points. Any player leaving prior to completing all 18 holes shall forfeit all remaining beer.
16. Clubs shall be irons only (actual golf clubs). Club choice shall remain throughout the game. Game balls must be plastic, whiffle type balls.
17. Warming and restocking shall take place during the turn (as determined by course owner).
18. All divots must be repaired.
19. All distances are measured by rounding up to the nearest foot.
20. All ties per hole and/or per game shall result in a duel*.
21. Lost balls during play shall result in a forfeit of that hole by that player.
22. If any player's score is "0" on the first 9 holes, that player may tee off of hole 10 with their pants down for 2 bonus points.
23. If a player farts during their backswing, that player has the automatic advantage in the event of a tie (no duel required). However, should any opposing player also fart before the ball comes to rest, then the advantage is nullified.
23. For etiquette purposes, NO trashing of the course. Garbage needs to be placed in the appropriate receptacles, etc.
24. BARLEY BOWL BALL ADVANTAGE - A player who has their own Barely Bowl Ball may move that ball one foot closer to the hole after they have hit it. A player may use their Barley Bowl Ball as long as it is in thier possession (once it's lost, it's lost). Other player may not dessicrate a Barley Bowl Ball (i.e. pee on it), or cause a player to intentionally lose their ball.
*Duel -A full beer shall be placed in each players hand with that hand kept at waist level. Each player must be back-to-back, walk 5 pace simultaneously with the other hand on their head, turn and face each other, then grab with the hand that was on there head and chug the beer. The player doing so the fastest shall win the duel. A forfeited duel shall result in a one point subtraction from that players score as well as the holes point getting rewarded to the other player.
SEASONAL POINT SYSTEM
1. All players who play in a tournament shall receive 1 point. In the event of inclement weather during play, a majority of players present may elect to cancel the play with no penalty. (those players still receive attendance points.)
2. Winner after 18 holes shall receive an additional point.
3. During a full moon tournament, all seasonal points will be doubled (a full moon tournament is defined as the 2 games that are colsest to a full moon on the calendar). In addition, the 2nd place player for the night shall earn an additonal point. For those who suck at math, this is how it works on a "Full Moon Tournament" - 1st gets 4 points, 2nd gets 3 points, all other players who attend get 2 points. ALSO, (this in not complicated), ALL FULL MOON TOURNAMENTS are designated as CHARITY TOURNAMENTS. Each player MUST pay a minimum of $10.00 to play and ALL procedes will go to the St. Jude Foundation, because, dammit, we can help these kids and i's not that much cash. (receipts of donation will be posted in our bars).
4. Any player who physically destroys property, doesn't pay either greens fees or full moon charity fees, intentionally loses another players Barley Bowl Ball, or masturbates on the course shall lose their seasonal points for that night.
5. Winner at the end of the season shall receive "The Trophy" until the end of the following season, in which "The Trophy" is then passed on to the winner of that season. There shall also be trophies for 2nd and 3rd place winners that will be passed on from season to season.
6. In the event of a tie for seasonal points for 1st, there shall be a "Tri-beer-nal", in which the tied players will have a 3 beer chug off. This event will take place at the Barley Bowl 30 minutes before tee time. Each player will have 3 - 12 ounce beers placed in front of them. The person who finishes all three first shall be the winner for that place. Absolutely no physical contact may take place by ANY member during this time (this is mano a mano, brothers)! If there is a tie for second, then 2 beers must be chugged. And for 3rd, then it's a one beer chug off. Any player who fails to show on time or declines the challenge shall be called a "pussy" from henceforth.
7. A season must consist of 11 games (cancellation due to inclement weather shall count as a game played)
8. The Nocturnal Barley Golf season for the Loxahatchee chapter shall be from Oct. 1st through April 1st.
**OFFICIAL PROCESS FOR RULES CREATION AND AMMENDMENT
1. Any member may propose a rule, however, the rule must be approved by a majority of the "executive committee".
2. The "executive committee" shall consist of the "Founding Fathers" (i.e. Andrew~Aldo~retta and Greg~Lou~manis).
3. Any approved rule changes will be reflected in the printing of the rules for the next game.
